Explaining a product in simple terms

Assignment: Pick a product OnTheGoSystems are offering, research it and explain it in simple terms.

For this assignment, I have selected WPML.

WPML

What it is for

Imagine you run a SaaS startup in Latvia. A customer from Peru visits your site, but everything is in English or Latvian. They leave.

Without a tool like WPML, creating a multilingual website would require building and maintaining separate websites for each language.

WPML solves this problem by turning one website (run on WordPress)  into many language versions.

What WPML does

WPML lets you turn one website into many languages (currently about 65).

You create your site, say, in English, add other languages, and WPML creates translated versions of the same pages.

When you update English content, you can update all translations and monitor them from one WordPress dashboard.

Key Benefits

Translation

You can translate the content yourself and then paste it into the site, use professional translation services integrated with WPML, or choose AI translation, which WPML also provides.

Their AI translation is provided by their Private Translation Cloud (PTC), which delivers context-aware, human-quality results with a quality guarantee – at a remarkable speed. It can translate not just page text, but also menus, buttons, and other parts of the site.

You can see and manage all translations from one place.

Language Switcher

To switch to their preferred language, visitors click the relevant switch, which site administrators can place anywhere on the site.

Multilingual SEO

One of the main benefits of this plugin is that pages in different languages have their own web addresses (URLs), making them accessible to search engines. For example,

anexample.com/en/about-us (English)

anexample.com/fr/a-propos (French)

anexample.com/es/sobre-nosotros (Spanish)

Google indexes each language separately, and thus helps you rank in different countries.

WPML tells Google that all language versions belong to the same page. This feature ensures that traffic is directed to the correct version of your website.

Compatibility and WooCommerce Integration

WPML works seamlessly with popular page builders like Elementor and Divi, as well as almost all themes and plugins, including WooCommerce. This makes it easy to create a cohesive and professional website.

If you have an online shop, WPML can help you translate your products and checkout process, making it easier for your customers to pay in different currencies. It's a great way to reach more people and make your store more accessible.

Pricing

WPML has a range of plans starting at around EUR39 and going up to EUR199 each year. You can also choose to buy credits if you need extensive AI usage.

Who needs WPML

These include e-commerce stores selling internationally, hotels, travel agencies, transnational and global corporations, media outlets, and other websites operating in multilingual regions (e.g., Canada, the US, Switzerland), as well as SaaS companies operating across multiple markets.

Drawbacks

The main drawback (among a few) is that setting up WPML is not so simple, and can take some time, especially for larger or more complex websites.

Recap

Remember that Peruvian customer who left your site? With WPML, they'd see your site in Spanish, navigate your products, and complete their purchase, all because you invested time setting up one plugin. That's the difference between a local business and a global one."
