Ferideh Kilii, Business Development
I've been lucky enough to work with some great people over the years, but Andrei Koval is genuinely in a category of his own.
What makes him stand out isn't just that he is sharp (though he absolutely is). It is how he leads. He's the kind of manager who's always thinking three steps ahead, but never makes you feel behind. He sets high standards, yes, but he also makes sure you have everything you need to actually meet them.
Working with Andrei, you always know where you stand. He is direct without being blunt, honest without being harsh, and decisive without being reckless. When things got tough (and in our work they did), he never lost his head. He stayed calm, kept everyone focused, and somehow always had a plan already in motion.
He has this rare ability to stay zoomed out on the big picture while still knowing exactly what's happening on the ground. He doesn't micromanage. He doesn't need to. His direction is clear enough that you just know what to do, and you want to do it well.
His skills in strategy and negotiation are honestly something to witness. He reads the room, understands leverage, and always seems to find angles to move things forward. But what I respect most is that he doesn't use those skills to just win, he uses them to build something lasting.
And then there's the human side of him, which matters just as much. He has a great sense of humor that makes even stressful days feel manageable. He actually enjoys cooking for his team (and he is good at it). It's a small thing but it says a lot; he cares about the people around him, not just the output.
He is also someone you learn from by being in the room. He doesn't give long speeches, but when he speaks, it's worth paying attention. Every conversation leaves you with something. A new way of thinking about problems, a story that sticks with you, a perspective you hadn't considered, and the list goes on and on..
If you are looking for a leader who combines strategic brilliance with genuine warmth, someone who makes the work better and the team stronger, Andrei is exactly that person.

Nairobi, Kenya
I have known Andrei Koval for close to two decades, since he first came to Nairobi, Kenya in the year 2005. He navigated the teething challenges expertly and steered it exceptionally well so that SGS became our business’s and many others’ preferred partner.
Mr Koval spent 14 years in Kenya and also came to head the neighbouring countries. Working with Andrei was very pleasant, ever approachable. Systems were in place, and whenever his intervention was needed, he stepped in to provide executive assistance and pragmatic solutions. His experience in and on the job was evident, having globe-trotted with SGS across Asia and Europe.
His unique sense of humour was legendary, and I personally longed to experience it in person at the many events he and SGS hosted.
Other than his work side, he is a genuinely fun person to be around.
